Another year and another Carved mandala off to the Indiana Youth Group (IYG) Art Auction, now in it’s 18th year! I’m thrilled to help support the work the organization is doing for LGBTQ youth of Indianapolis. Money raised during the auction goes toward providing programming and safe environments to empower teens through social and leadership programs, support services and community service. The art auction takes place August 11th at CCIC.
If you've been following along for a while, you know that I love to create on and with a wide variety of surfaces and materials...but, never did it occur to me that I would have the opportunity to create on a manhole cover! I was one of 15 artists selected to transform a manhole cover as part of the Citizens Energy Group DigIndy Project, a 28-mile tunnel system that help to ensure our waterways are safe for all.
This was by far the heaviest (250 pounds!) canvas and definitely the most challenging in terms of surface and paints, which are formulated for streets...I had to work quickly as the paint dries in a flash! It took approximately 22 hours to complete...but thankfully, I can share this 1-minute video to show you the entire process!
Flourish Mandala represents all of life not only thriving but flourishing when given the opportunity to access clean and safe waterways.
The manholes be placed along the cultural trail on August 2nd! Be sure to check them all out while you're out running, walking, biking, skating, dancing? along the Cultural Trail next week! ... See MoreSee Less

Completed panel for the DigIndy Art Project First Friday Exhibit which opens this coming Friday at the Harrison Center! DigIndy is a 28 mile tunnel system that will help ensure our waterways are safer for generations to come! Forty two local artists were given the task to create wooden replicas of manhole covers with designs that were inspired by the beauty of area waterways. During the reception, a selected jury will choose 15 designs that the artists will reproduce on actual manholes. You’ll be able to see the transformed manholes as you cruise along the Cultural Trail beginning July 25th!
“Flourish” Mandala (a graphic embodying universal wholeness) to me, represents all of life not only thriving, but flourishing when given the opportunity to access clean and safe waterways.

One of my favorite kind of texts from good friend and collab partner, @Megan Jefferson, starts off:
Megs: We got the wall! J: Awesome!! Megs: The fun begins! I have a shit ton of spray paint! J: Fantastic! I have a design idea, give me a day and I'll send over a mock-up! Megs: Heck yeah! We need some big ass wings! J: Girl, I am with you!
And with that, two days later, we tackle one of the more challenging (design wise) and biggest set of wings that we've attempted to date. I so appreciate Megs awesome attitude (despite the sun beating down on us with all it's might)...it took some brain power to work this mural, but had you walked/ran/biked by us today, you would have heard nothing but laughter (and maybe some cursing at a stubborn stencil :D). We've become a well-oiled machine and at this point, I can't imagine there's much we couldn't do together! On to the next set of #indyangelwings! ... See MoreSee Less

Did you know that my Aussie wife and #1 supporter, Martine Locke, is a newly crowned real estate agent? Just 10 months ago, she took the plunge into this new-to-her career after nearly 25 years as a touring singer/songwriter...and let me tell you, she is rocking it, in all ways! Her passion and desire to match her clients with the perfect home has been a joy to witness.
I’m so incredibly thrilled for and proud of her...and just had to share a glimpse of what passion and love for what she does looks like, in her own words (with an appearance by me and the pups! 😉❤️).
And you know, if you should find yourself in need of a real estate agent...😉...she would take tremendous care of you. 🙂

My daughter has been involved with helping to raise funds for Riley Hospital for Children the past couple of years and part of her teams fundraising efforts is to host a dance marathon at their school. She asked if I would create a set of wings in the dance theme colors to use as a backdrop for the photo booth...which I happily obliged as this is a cause near and dear to Alayna’s heart. I can’t wait to see all those sweet faces in front of these wings! (Completed wing photos in comments below!) Alayna is fundraising online if you’d like to send a few dollars her way. They are half way to their goal of $15,000 and would no doubt be thrilled to up that number before the dance tonight! All proceeds benefit the kiddos at Riley to help provide life-changing care and comfort as they battle cancer, diabetes, heart defects and other illnesses. Donation link is below!Thank you! 😘❤️

Yesterday was my last welding class with The Latinas Welding Guild (😢) where we all had the opportunity to focus on a personal project, putting our newly acquired welding skills to work. Since I was in need of a tool hanger for my new easel, I knew exactly what I wanted to work on.
And because Cash Fine Cabinetry wasn’t down with my answer of “ah, I’m just going to go back there and wing it” when he curiously asked “do you have design plan?” he graciously offered to help me map it out. 😬 I mean, I had a rough idea...but it was apparent after chatting some more with him about what I wanted, this was something I couldn’t just wing. 😬
So, with Aaron’s help, I quickly had measurements and a cardboard template (oh yes, he did! Bless him.) in hand and off I went to cut and weld this fantastical tool hanger!
I love that the arm is extendable so I can easily work on pieces up to 4’ x 4’! So thrilled with how it turned out and how much easier it makes my job! 🙌
Have I mentioned how much I love welding?! Seriously, I can’t stop thinking of things I want to make! Thanks again to @thelatinasweldingguild and our fantastic instructor, Charles, for the opportunity to learn a new skill! And @cashfinecabinetry, you are the best! 😘 ... See MoreSee Less
